"Plein Air Summer" 2010 at Galerie 240

Brenda Gale Warner, the gallery owner, has embarked upon a journey of painting outdoors this summer (2010.) The collection of paintings are titled "Plein Air Summer," all of the artworks are painted outside on the front porch of Galerie 240, in the Byward Market. I can barely keep up with Brenda's enthusiasim for the process of making art, and her energy for sharing her talents with others. It is really quite amazing to have a art mentor who has a true ablility to generate a space that allows people to become a part of her creative process. Brenda will be painting outside at Galerie 240 all summer long, weather permitting. Feel free to stop by during gallery hours.

Mark Garbutt, wildlife photographer & Sheryl Siddiqui mixed media artist

We had another amazing show at Galerie 240, showcasing the photographs of Mark Garbutt. His extensive travels all over the world as a wildlife tour guide and professional photographer, are evident in his latest collection of photographs. Although it would be simply to difficult to choose a favourite print, I must say that I was so taken by Mark's collection of Macaw birds..simply amazing. The show also included eight 10x10 mixed media paintings by myself, Sheryl Siddiqui. The series entitled "Nest Series" is my ongoing exploration of birds, and my own bright, funky, textured technique of capturing my fascination with birds and bird habits. Galerie 240 has a small collection of Mark Garbutt's photographs currently in house for purchase. The show duration, May 9- 30, 2010.

Vernissage: Val Roos

Today was the opening of the exhibition of Ottawa artist Val Roos. What a unique show of encaustic art (bees wax on hand-stretched canvas.) I am so inspired by Val's amazing talent with a meduim that I find so fascinating. Val Roos is also an art teacher with the City of Ottawa, and it was great to see some of her art students today at Galerie 240 for the opening.
